Description: An urban renewal project that consolidated four city blocks with the new head offices for the Absa Banking Group, incorporating two existing bank buildings.

Project architects TC Design

Project: Public Seating, benches Bollards, Rubbish Bins and public sculpture.

The team formed applied the skills and techniques of industrial and handcraft production. Four Wood carvers, from the curio industry, and a precast concrete floor paving company were recruited to produce these elements from my designs. The wooden bollards had basic themes defined by the bank and the Architects, which I Developed with the craftsman. The concrete bollards were made using silicone molds and reinforced with steel. All the steelwork was subcontracted to small engineering works and the installation was done once all the paving and street works were complete. The steel coins were made by myself, assembled cut and welded from plate and bar. The coins had a diameter of 1m and 0.75m. These were placed on a base, which was made by the main building contractor.
