  • Project description: Bloemenhof Park Urban Furniture
  • Client: Johannesburg Metropolitan Council
  • Date: 1997
  • Position: Resident architect/artist invited to collaborate on community project.
  •  Responsibilities: Design, manufacture and installation of public seating, benches and illumination for the Bloemenhof Municipal Park, Troyeville. The furniture was made of steel, concrete and rubber slabs with colourful mosaic to finish.

This was the recycling of old warehousing for a nightclub.  Made chairs , Lighting and  bar counter as part of an installation group called  “The Highwaymen”.

  • Project Description:  Mediation and community involvement in resolving issues between hawkers and shop owners about street trading on the pavements. This process resulted in the formalized hawker stalls in steel and canvas structures, benches, bollards, sculptures, Public Lighting and landscaping and formalization of hawkers in the Johannesburg CBD.

  • Project description: This informal yet historical market occupied council land. This required the formalisation and organization of Herbal Healers and informal traders for the Johannesburg City Council. The outcome was consultation rooms for the witchdoctor’s, and lockable storage for their natural remedies for which they would pay city council a rental.

  • Project Description: House Lear, Johannesburg: Renovation of an existing house with serious structural damage.

  • Responsibilities: Full reinforcing of the house, foundation reinforcement, and structural repair. Production of Council Drawings, Project Management, Construction and the production of steelwork, and mosaic details and interior design. 

The bar was for a Nigerian Architect that wanted a venue for Afro- French performers for the Nigerian community

Steelwork, signage and lighting was supplied and fitted.

  •  Project Description: Makalali Game Lodge- Eco tourism Resort
  • Date: 1994-1995
  • Position: Work in collaboration with architect Silvio Rech . Site Architect and nominated subcontractor for steelwork
  • Responsibilities: On site design and construction, where the lodge had to have an African feel and use local materials, skills and Construction methods. All the detailing was evolved on site.
